Shirley A asked:

we need to plant out the flower seedlings from the greenhouse as we are going away in a couple of weeks. Can we be sure they won’t dry out and die, hence making our efforts useless?
Many thanks. All good ideas.

Should I start seedlings or just buy from a greenhouse?

I know absolutely nothing about growing plants from seeds or bulbs inside!!!! I don’t want to spend a whole bunch of money on it, so is it worth it or should I just go to a greenhouse and buy my seedlings there?

Also, what are some great starters if to start growing inside? Any types?

Advice For First Time Gardener?

This will be my first time planting a flower garden and I have several questions and things I need help with. I bought many seeds of plants I liked and planted them in one of the mini greenhouse things that you put the peat things in and plant the seeds in them.

Some of the more tiny stemmed delicate ones that grew began to get a web like thing around them and died. what caused it and how can I prevent it from happeneing? The ones most affected were the poppies, Columbine, snapdragon, and the foxglove once I took it out of the greenhouse.

I planted Foxglove,Cockscomb, sweet William, Forget-Me-Nots, Larkspur, Oriental and Iceland Poppies, Sweet Pea, Columbine, Red and Yellow Sunflower, Canterbury Bells, Snapdragon, Red Hot Poker, ect.

It has been very warm and then this week it dropped off to freezing suddenly for like a week. How can I make sure it will not freeze again so I can plant them?

Can you reccomend any other flowers, tips, ect that will be good for shade/par. sun?

Will it harm my plants if i stain the wood in the greenhouse?

I live on the coast. It’s cold. Even in the summer it’s not very warm. I have all these old windows in the basement, huge picture windows, and the like. I’m thinking of using them to wrap around my garden, like prop them against the 100 feet of fencing that’s already surrounding the area. Do you think this would work? The top would be open, so I don’t suppose that would make it like a greenhouse, technically.
Maybe I didn’t explain too well. On flat ground, a large rectangular garden is surrounded by wire fencing. That fencing is 6 feet high. There is a gate on one side so I can get inside the fenced area and water my garden. What I’m imagining is propping up large pieces of glass around the outside of this fence, so that the entire rectangle is surrounded by glass as well as the wire fence. The glass will be maybe 4 feet to 6 feet vertically. I hope that the heat will get trapped inside the garden, at least for a short while.

Will mold grow in my bonsai greenhouse?

R L asked:

I have tried before to use items like glass jars as miniature greenhouses to grow plants. However, every time since it was moist inside the “greenhouse,” mold began to grow inside.

My question is regarding a plastic bag greenhouse I constructed to winter my bonsai tree in. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to prevent mold growth inside the greenhouse while still retaining moisture and heat so that the plant will not freeze or dry out.

Thank you for your help.
