How to look after Carnivorous plant Sarracenia Farhamii?

Andy H asked:

I have bought the above plant and need to know how to look after them. I have simply potted it as I would any other plant in normal compost however I believe it may need different conditions.

It is in my conservatory which acts a bit like a greenhouse so temperature should not be a problem.

Any guides, links to guides on growing this plant and links to specific potting materials for it would be appreciated

Where to put a greenhouse?

Ms. Narwhal asked:

I have one of those small greenhouse things

http://www.lowes.com/pd_318839-10155-FHPT400CL_0_?productId=3111999&Ntt=greenhouse&Ntk=i_products&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=greenhouse$y=6$x=25

I originally had it in the middle of the patio, but the wind knocked it over. It wasn’t really windy, either. Right now it’s again my house, and the thunderstorm last night didn’t knock it over. BUT-it’s in the shade. Any recommendations?

Will it make my bamboos grow faster to put them in my greenhouse?

steve l asked:

I’m in zone 6 and now temperatures average from 50-70 and I have a lot of potted bamboos, temperate as well as tropical. Will it help their growth if I put them inside a greenhouse I just bought? I want them to grow faster.
Most of these bamboos are either new divisions from my groves or from seed and fairly small so I want them to grow faster.

What kind of small business would you have if you could start one of your own?

Patti asked:

I’m thinking a herbal shop, or a fruit stand that sells produce plus fresh herbs, and other country stuff, or a greenhouse? What would you do if you could start a small business?
I’ve thought of a little coffee shop too, but I would also sell herbal teas and a variety of drinks and some fresh-made snacks to go along with it. It would have a colorful ecletic decor.

I’d LOVE to open a little coffee shop / restaurant with a very antique vintage feel to it.

Good luck with your business endeavor

A little European style cafe that sells coffee, tea, and pastries. Maybe I’d include a section that sells herbal remedies(I’m a big believer in them, I always use them first) and fresh cut flowers.

A yarn shop. I’d have it for knitters and crocheters, and other needleworkers. I’d put on nice music and have beautiful yarns and supplies. There would be classes in all aspects of knitting and crocheting. It would be a relaxing and positive atmosphere where knitters and crocheters can get help with projects.

A small bar that offered entertainment on the weekends, talent shows, and Karaoke, and hopefully would convince ‘Gladys’ to appear as headliner. She could do stand-up comedy, play the accordian, or do Karaoke. What ever her little heart desired!

IT would not be a small business in fact i would go worldwide.
It would be fun to have a business where i could trap all of the scammers and cons in cyberspace and make them pay very dearly for their malicious practise.
Like the idea of a coffee shop though, the rates that Starbucks charge would guarantee a substansial income even on a small scale.

I’ve already done it. I was a small business owner selling trading cards for 15 yrs.
I never loved to work any more than what it took to make this business survive.
Then one day my past caught up to me and it all disappeared.

I would also like to open a coffee shop. I’d like to roast the beans on site in small batches so the coffee would taste better. The ultimate goal would be to offer the best cup of coffee around, and not just to emulate the crap they sell at Starbucks. That stuff is awful.

It is more of a dream of my daughter’s than mine, but I would really like to help her get a coffee kiosk going. They are a rave in Washington and we do adore a good cup of coffee. There’s nothing like making money at something you enjoy.

If I knew how to make them, a donut shop.
I’d open it about 430, 5 am to catch the work crowd, sell coffee, donuts, fruit, and breakfast sandwich’s.
Maybe, I would do a lite lunch thing, like a “box lunch to go” also.
Then close at 2pm, and take a nap.
(This town really needs a donut shop, and at one time, I really was jazzed about doing this very thing. I had a corner picked out, right across the street from a big Catholic church, and about four block from the Courthouse. But, they built a “strip-mall” there. )

Solar Greenhouse. Is it really effective?

Potlatch Hermit asked:

I am very interested in a product called “Solar Gem Greenhouses”. This product may be the answer for my locality, Pacific Northwest, where sunshine is not all that present during winter days. It is supposed to diffuse sunlight by very small fiberglass pieces built in the wall. But I am a little concerned of ‘fiberglass’ part.

Has anyone ever used this type of greenhouses? Does it really work as it claims? Is there any other material used for greenhouses, which may work better than fiberglass-fused type?
